The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Cisco technologies, the ability to configure, install, and troubleshoot Cisco 9300 switches, and experience with Juniper systems, as some environments may require transitioning from Juniper to Cisco.

As a Route Switch Engineer, you will be responsible for performing Layer 1 surveys, configuring network equipment from the NAIC, and executing remote installations to ensure seamless deployments. You will also be involved in the creation of As-Built documentation to track configurations and setups. The role demands attention to detail, hands-on experience with routing and switching technologies, and a proactive approach to equipment configuration and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities:
  • Network Equipment Refresh:
    • Upgrade legacy Juniper and older Cisco equipment to Cisco 9300 switches, ensuring proper configuration and optimal functionality.
    • Perform comprehensive Layer 1 surveys to assess site readiness and ensure proper setup of new hardware.
    • Coordinate and execute remote installations from the NAIC (Network Automation and Integration Center).
    • Provide configuration support and validate equipment functionality post-installation.
  • Configuration and Troubleshooting:
    • Configure Cisco 9300 switches and other related networking devices based on project requirements.
    • Ensure correct Layer 2 and Layer 3 configurations for optimal network performance.
    • Perform testing and troubleshooting of network equipment and configurations to identify and resolve any issues.
  • Documentation and As-Builds:
    • Create and maintain accurate As-Built documentation for all configurations, installations, and network layouts.
    • Ensure all changes to network configurations are logged and updated in the network inventory systems.
    • Provide reports on network status and any incidents that occur during equipment refresh and installation.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with other team members and stakeholders to ensure smooth integration and deployment of new equipment.
    • Provide remote support during the installation process and communicate effectively with team members and clients.

Basic Hiring Criteria:
  • Strong experience in Cisco routing and switching, specifically with Cisco 9300 switches.
  • Hands-on experience with Layer 1 network surveys, including site readiness assessments and hardware installations.
  • In-depth knowledge of Juniper networking equipment is highly desirable, particularly for transitioning to Cisco equipment.
  • Familiarity with network protocols, such as OSPF, BGP, STP, and VLANs.
  • Proficient in network configuration tools and software, with the ability to manually configure switches and routers.
  • Ability to perform network testing and troubleshooting using industry-standard tools (e.g., Wireshark, NetFlow, etc.).
  • Strong documentation skills, including experience creating As-Built reports and network diagrams.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Remote conditions - Travel Required 50%.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Certifications such as Cisco CCNP or CCIE are highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with Juniper SRX, EX, or QFX series is a plus.
  • Knowledge of network security principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible).
