We have an outstanding Contract to Hire position for a Staff Accountant to join a leading Company located in the Ashland, VA surrounding area.
We are a trusted HVAC company delivering high-quality heating, ventilation, and air conditioning services to residential and commercial clients. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant with construction industry experience and strong cost accounting knowledge to join our finance team.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
Reconcile monthly bank statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
Track and analyze job costs, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead.
Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis for construction projects.
Assist in accounts payable and receivable, including subcontractor payments and customer invoicing.
Support payroll processing and ensure accurate job costing allocations.
Collaborate with project managers to monitor project budgets, billing schedules, and financial performance.
Prepare and maintain WIP (Work in Progress) schedules and reports.
Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation entries.
Prepare journal entries and monthly accruals.
Support month-end and year-end close processes.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting operations.
Basic Hiring Criteria:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or HVAC industry.
Strong understanding of cost accounting and job costing principles.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).
Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting tools.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Must be certified in CPR and First Aid or agreeable to become certified
Must possess a valid Virginia Drivers' License, be company insurable, and have an acceptable criminal record in accordance with applicable regulations.
Must be able to communicate effectively with all staff and vendors.
Must possess reliable transportation.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with construction project accounting and WIP reporting.
Knowledge of industry-specific compliance and tax regulations.
CPA or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
