We have an outstanding Contract to Hire position for a Staff Accountant to join a leading Company located in the Ashland, VA surrounding area.
We are a trusted HVAC company delivering high-quality heating, ventilation, and air conditioning services to residential and commercial clients. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant with construction industry experience and strong cost accounting knowledge to join our finance team.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
- Reconcile monthly bank statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Track and analyze job costs, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis for construction projects.
- Assist in accounts payable and receivable, including subcontractor payments and customer invoicing.
- Support payroll processing and ensure accurate job costing allocations.
- Collaborate with project managers to monitor project budgets, billing schedules, and financial performance.
- Prepare and maintain WIP (Work in Progress) schedules and reports.
- Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation entries.
- Prepare journal entries and monthly accruals.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting operations.
Basic Hiring Criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or HVAC industry.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting and job costing principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting tools.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be certified in CPR and First Aid or agreeable to become certified
- Must possess a valid Virginia Drivers' License, be company insurable, and have an acceptable criminal record in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all staff and vendors.
- Must possess reliable transportation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with construction project accounting and WIP reporting.
- Knowledge of industry-specific compliance and tax regulations.
- CPA or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
