We have an outstanding Contract position for a SolarWinds SME to join a leading Company located in the Alexandria, VA surrounding area.

We are seeking a skilled SolarWinds SME to manage and optimize our network monitoring and management environment. This role is critical for ensuring the health, performance, and security of our IT infrastructure through proactive monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting using SolarWinds tools. 

Job Responsibilities:  
  • Install, configure, and maintain SolarWinds products (NPM, NCM, SAM, etc.) to monitor network devices, servers, and applications. 
  • Develop and manage dashboards, alerts, and reports to provide visibility into network and system performance. 
  • Perform routine maintenance and upgrades to ensure optimal performance and security of SolarWinds systems. 
  • Integrate SolarWinds with other IT management and ticketing tools and maintain documentation of configurations and processes. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to network monitoring, alerting, and data collection. 
  • Collaborate with network and systems teams to ensure accurate device inventory and monitoring coverage. 
  • Implement best practices for performance tuning and capacity planning within SolarWinds environments. 
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and assist in audits related to monitoring systems. 

Basic Hiring Criteria:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. 
  • 4+ years of experience in network/system administration with a focus on monitoring tools. 
  • 2+ years of experience with SolarWinds, with SolarWinds Certified Professional (SCP) certification or similar work experience 
  • Proven experience administering, configuring, and deploying SolarWinds products in enterprise environments. 
    • Deep Platform Knowledge - Mastery of the core SolarWinds Platform architecture, including polling engines (main/additional), scalability, high availability (HA), database management (SQL), upgrades/migrations, and integration features like PerfStack™, NetPath™, AppStack™, Orion Maps, and custom properties. 
    • Module-Specific Expertise - Advanced configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting across key modules: 
      • Network Performance Monitor (NPM): Interface monitoring, hardware health, capacity planning, SNMP polling/trapping/Syslog, Network Insight. 
      • Server & Application Monitor (SAM): Custom templates, AppInsight, application monitors, alerts. 
      • NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA): Bandwidth/flow analysis (note: some older exams retired). 
      • Network Configuration Manager (NCM): Config backup/change/compliance. 
      • Others like IPAM, VMAN, SRM, WPM, VNQM, and integrations with cloud/hybrid setups, desirable. 
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls) and protocols (TCP/IP, SNMP). 
  • Familiarity with Windows Server and Linux environments. 
  • Experience with network diagnostic and monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Wireshark, etc.). 
  • Scripting skills (PowerShell, Python) for automation and customization. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

Desired Qualifications: 
  • Professional certifications such as SolarWinds Certified Professional (SCP), CCNA, or equivalent. 
  • Experience with cloud environments (Azure, AWS) and hybrid infrastructure monitoring. 
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and change management.
