We have an outstanding career opportunity for an Electrical Controls Designer (Controls Architect) to join a leading Company located in the Randolph, NJ surrounding area.
Salary: $90K-$120K
We are seeking a detail-oriented Electrical Controls Design Engineer to develop and document electrical control systems for custom automation equipment. This role is responsible for creating electrical schematics, generating bills of materials (BOMs), and ensuring designs comply with applicable UL and IEC standards. The ideal candidate has strong experience with EPLAN and a solid understanding of industrial control systems.
Job Responsibilities:
Design and develop electrical control schematics for industrial automation systems using EPLAN.
Maintain legacy control schematics in AutoCAD.
Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) aligned with project requirements and company standards.
Ensure all designs comply with UL, IEC, and other applicable electrical codes and standards.
Develop panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and interconnect drawings.
Collaborate with mechanical engineers, controls engineers, and project teams to integrate electrical systems into overall machine design.
Review and check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Support panel fabrication, assembly, and field installation teams by resolving design issues.
Maintain documentation and revision control throughout the project lifecycle.
Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Basic Hiring Criteria:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
3+ years of experience in electrical controls design, in industrial automation or machinery.
Knowledge of EPLAN Electric P8 and AutoCAD.
Strong understanding of industrial control power components (circuit breakers, fuses, FLA calculations, SCCR calculations, etc.)
Strong understanding of industrial control components (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, relays, etc.)
Knowledge of industrial fieldbus.
Working knowledge of UL 508A, NFPA 79, and IEC standards.
Working knowledge of automation safety requirements.
Experience creating and managing BOMs.
Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and standards.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience designing control panels for custom machinery or automated systems.
Familiarity with ERP systems for BOM and document management.
Knowledge of panel layout optimization and wire routing best practices.
Exposure to international project requirements and CE marking.
UL MTR Certification.
