We have an outstanding Contract to Hire position for a Senior Document Control Specialist to join a leading Company located in San Diego, CA.
Pay Rate: $35 - $45
1st Shift: Mon – Fri 7am – 3pm
The Senior Document Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining controlled documentation as part of the Quality Management System and supporting engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations through ECO processing, document release, BOM maintenance, drawing package review, and configuration management. This temporary-to-hire position provides immediate support during a resource constraint and helps maintain continuity through planned absences and transition activities.
Responsibilities:
- Route, review, format, release, and maintain controlled documents, including drawings, specifications, procedures, work instructions, test methods, protocols, reports, and quality records.
- Support the ECO/change control process for new, revised, and obsolete documents, including Change Requests, Change Notices, ECO forms, supporting rationale, implementation plans, and release records.
- Check engineering document packages for completeness and consistency with approved ECOs, including 2D/3D drawings, assemblies, revision levels, BOM information, and related technical records.
- Process and maintain Bills of Materials and part records in ERP, PLM, PDM, or controlled database systems based on approved ECOs; support new BOMs, revised BOMs, and obsolete component documentation.
- Support configuration management by maintaining traceability between released drawings, BOMs, specifications, part records, and manufacturing documentation.
- Support agency certification activities, customer requests, internal audits, inspections, and quality system documentation by organizing, retrieving, and preparing controlled documentation packages.
- Support engineering and manufacturing teams during new product development and NPI-to-production transfer through timely document release, BOM readiness, and documentation package accuracy.
- Communicate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, procurement, planning, suppliers, and external contract organizations to maintain documentation alignment and resolve open documentation issues.
- Maintain document archives, electronic logs, secure document locations, and restricted-access controls where applicable, including ITAR or other controlled documentation requirements.
- Support ECO review meetings, maintain ECO status visibility, assist with monthly metrics, and help update documentation procedures, SOPs, work instructions, and implementation schedules as assigned.
Initial Focus / Expectations:
- Quickly learn existing ECO, BOM, ERP, archive, document release, and certification-support processes.
- Maintain continuity for new BOM processing, obsolete component documentation, agency certification support, document control, data entry, and active NPI programs.
- Support potential release and transfer of Cenergia documentation packages if assigned.
- Provide practical day-to-day coordination and working-lead support as assigned; this role is not intended to replace formal department management authority unless designated separately.
Basic Hiring Criteria:
- Associate or bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering Technology, Quality, Operations, Mechanical Design, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of document control, configuration management, ECO/change control, BOM, PLM/PDM, ERP, or technical documentation experience in an engineering, manufacturing, quality, medical device, industrial, or regulated environment.
- Hands-on experience processing ECOs, engineering change requests, change notices, drawing changes, revision changes, and document releases from start to completion.
- Experience creating, updating, and checking BOMs, part records, drawing revisions, assemblies, and engineering documentation packages.
- Working knowledge of PLM/PDM/ERP or controlled documentation systems such as Teamcenter, SAP, Aras, EPDM/PDM, MasterControl, E1, or equivalent systems.
- SolidWorks experience strongly preferred, including ability to review parts, assemblies, drawings, and BOM-related information; AutoCAD or Creo experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of configuration management, document control principles, revision control, controlled records, and quality system documentation practices.
- Experience supporting NPI, product transfer, supplier coordination, agency certification, audit readiness, or manufacturing documentation support preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel for tracking, data review, pivot tables, lookups, logs, and reporting.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills; self-starter able to multitask in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.
