We have an outstanding Contract to Hire position for a Payroll Accountant / Tax Analyst to join a leading Company located in the Los Angeles, CA surrounding area.

This role is hybrid role. Dept is looking for a tax analyst and accountant who can flex and support the dept as needed. Responsibilities will be ~ 40% payroll tax related and ~60% payroll functions (not payroll processing). 

Job Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and file/transmit manual tax returns not done by tax filing service and request checks from Accounts Payable. 
  • Act as backup for weekly federal and state tax payments, reconciling quarterly tax filings and year end W 2 Forms, assisting with the preparation, review and filing of tax returns. 
  • Make system updates to withholding rates and other tax setup changes
  • File for missing registrations numbers and help with quarter filing W2 audits for 27 FEINs. 
  • Must have knowledge of how to register states and localities for over 27 FEINs and have high level experience with ADP"s Smart Compliance.
  • Act as backup for weekly changes to employees lived in and worked in state and local tax designations. 
  • Prepare special ad hoc reports as required and handle additional responsibilities as assigned or requested.
  • Process and reconcile payroll journal entries, monthly accruals, general ledger analysis, and inter-company transactions for an assigned group of FSES business entities. 
  • Perform payroll expense account analysis for monthly, quarterly and year-end close.
  • Process stop payments and ACH returns
  • ACH return tracking and Escheat process. 
  • Tax payment research (which tax payments have been made) 
  • *W-2 audit experience
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations 
  • Bank reconciliations: Reconcile general ledger balance sheet accounts as assigned and prepare to correct journal entries as needed. 

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of an associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field strongly preferred. 
  • 3 - 5 years of hands on payroll accounting experience. 
  • Prior in-house payroll tax processing for large organizations . Experience using ADP SmartCompliance is a plus! (not required). 
  • System to know: Workday / JDE, knowledge for ADP SmartCompliance (this is the employment Tax module of ADP).Company is currently using Workday for payroll and will be implementing Finance module in July.
  • Must be able to make accurate calculations, detect and correct errors in the payroll data, and work accurately and quickly under changing operational deadlines
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality in dealing with payroll data, including sensitive payroll data related to executive employees. 
  • Must possess strong communication skills and be able to express ideas clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing. 
  • Must have effective work skills, successfully demonstrating flexibility, initiative, and sound judgment while working in a team environment.
  • Experience that includes a demonstrated knowledge of payroll practices, procedures, and functions within an overall organization of more than 5,000 employees preferred. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office - Outlook, Excel and Word required. 
  • Prior experience with JD Edwards preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles required. 
  • Must be able to handle multiple priorities at the same time, be meticulous, adhere to set procedures, and complete tasks timely and accurately in a fast-paced environment with ever-changing deadlines. 
  • Must be able to react with the appropriate sense of urgency, without sacrificing accuracy in order to meet deadlines. 
  • The department is currently in transition, thus candidate must be able to adjust quickly to changes in software, processing and procedures. 
  • Demonstrated analytical skills required to apply accounting procedures, interpret reports, and to resolve accounting problems.
