Position Overview
PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking a C-17 Fuel Cell Mechanic to join our team in San Antonio, TX. This position plays a critical role in aircraft assembly and integration, supporting the build and installation of major wing and structural components. The ideal candidate will have hands-on mechanical experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
Training Requirement
Successful completion of training (OJT or formal classroom training) is required as a contingency for this assignment.
Schedule & Attendance
Must be available for variable shifts (1st and 2nd shift)
Regular and predictable attendance is mandatory
Key Responsibilities
Interpret and follow technical work instructions, blueprints, and specifications
Assemble and install aircraft structures, sub-assemblies, plumbing systems, and electrical components
Perform tasks related to fuselage and wing joining
Work with composite and metal aircraft materials
Use chemical products such as sealants, coatings, primers, adhesives, and paints
Operate hand tools and power tools (drills, riveters, torque wrenches, crimpers, etc.)
Inspect work for quality and ensure compliance with FOD (Foreign Object Debris) standards
Ability to work in confined spaces, including entering wing fuel tanks (~18” x 10” opening)
Perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods (6–8 hours), including:
Bending, kneeling, crawling, squatting, and reaching overhead
Standing, walking, twisting, and climbing ladders or scaffolding
Working with high-impact vibratory tools
Lift, carry, push, and pull 10–35 pounds
Frequent exposure to noise and enclosed workspaces
Basic Qualifications
Ability to access and work inside confined fuel tank areas
Minimum 1+ year experience using hand and power tools
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Willingness to work variable shifts (1st or 2nd)
High School Diploma or GED required
Preferred Qualifications
1+ year of experience in assembly or mechanical work
Experience operating heavy equipment
Background in aerospace, automotive, robotics, or related industries (including education or military experience)
